Importers should be aware that there are now related third-country cases for merchandise from Canada and Mexico that contain aluminum components extruded in China. Certain goods from these countries may now “flag” for possible AD/CVD for aluminum extrusions from China. If merchandise from Canada or Mexico contains aluminum components extruded in China that were further processed or assembled in Canada or Mexico, the aluminum extrusion portion may be subject to AD/CVD under the cases below.

The 2024-2025 Australian Federal Budget was released last month, and while it specifically mentioned measures likely to affect Importers and Exporters, a number of nuances implied are worth exploring in more detail. 

The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) recently released a Memorandum outlining actions to be taken in response to the statutory 4-Year Review of the Section 301 Investigation of China’s Acts, Policies, and Practices Related to Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property, and Innovation (Section 301 Investigation).  The review looked at the effectiveness of eliminating China’s technology transfer-related acts, policies, and practices and the overall effects of the tariff actions on the U.S. economy. Based on this review, modifications to the actions have been proposed.

Importers of paper shopping bags should be aware that these bags may be subject to antidumping and countervailing duties.

On July 20, 2023, the U.S. International Trade Commission determined that there is a reasonable indication that an industry in the United States is materially injured by imports of paper shopping bags from Cambodia, China, Colombia, India, Malaysia, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey, and Vietnam, that are alleged to be sold in the U.S. at less than fair value. 

The benefits offered to Japanese Authorized Economic Operators (hereafter “AEO”s) are characterized in a wide variety of ways. In recent years, the number of benefits has developed gradually, reflecting opinions and feedback from AEO participants.

Additionally, the administrative procedures that previously burdened the participators have been adjusted.
